This marks the second part of our International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA’22) convention coverage. Moving into the increased innovation in entertainment and attractions, and the latest investment in “Simulators” and “SimRacing” was on display. The continued popularity of simulators in the amusement scene was reflected from two camps – for example, veteran manufacturer Maxflight presented their ‘VR2002’ range of systems, with their unique 360° motion envelope that still offers a compelling game experience.  Meanwhile, on the other side of the simulation and racing scene, we saw several leading SimRacing seats with motion, building on the popularity of the eSports and tournament racing scene. One of the larger attraction developers to embrace this scene was Brogent Technologies – known for their simulator attractions, the company came to IAAPA’22 with a selection of their immersive experiences. #1148 – Immersive Entertainment Shines in Orlando – Part 3

This marks the third part of our International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA’22) convention coverage. What was clearly a major trend on display at IAAPA’22 was the deployment of “Immersive Enclosures”. We would place them in the MR category, with their immersive screen technology, and there has been a growing trend in immersive display enclosures using projection and flat display technology. The enclosure systems using immersive displays were represented from several developers. One of the familiar exhibitors was Axiom Holographics with their ‘AXIOM’ platform, which we have reported on from IAAPA-EMEA’22 and many years of appearance. This is the holographic immersive display company that has seen its platform deployed in Australia.  One of the latest developments was the inclusion of “Computer Vision” to the experience, so able to track the player, and even place their representation into the […]

#1145 – The New Entertainment Universe

The international media has been fixated on the upsurge of interest in terms such as “the Metaverse” – preaching a new religion of virtual commerce and immersive experiences. Many of these developments have been linked, in many cases, to blockchain activity, as well as the need to experience these environments only in virtual reality. This latest Stinger Report takes a snapshot of these developments, and the implications for the future.  Metaverse Falling into Focus The reality of the immersive VR environments being proposed took a hit from continuing criticism. As with the World Wide Web’s aspirations to metamorphosize into the Information Superhighway that would materialize back in the day – only to becoming the open Internet we know today. The dreams of a walled garden for immersive commerce, as a replacement to the internet, has been labelled “Web3” and some […]

Rundown of trade and entertainment developments that took place after IAAPA-EMEA’22, and the rush to promote the latest developments and licensing opportunities in the digital landscape continued apace. Along with the Tokyo gaming convention, we see the licensing sector in Europe show its attraction colours and much more.   Tokyo Game Show 2022 (TGS’22) The Japanese major consumer gaming event took pride of place in the territory, coming to terms with physical events once again, and the leading consumer game studios and console hardware manufacturers invested heavily on major publicity, promotion, and spectacle. A return to physical events seemed popular with the gaming audience, though active COVID measures were very much in evidence. One of those who took the event as a starting gun for their latest investment into the VR space was SONY Interactive Entertainment (SIE). The company had, […]
